KRISTI CAWTHORN AT THE CANADA POWERED BY WOMEN SUMMIT

Startec CEO, Kristi Cawthorn, recently attended the Canada Powered by Women Summit in Calgary, joining nearly 400 women from across the energy sector for a day of discussion focused on the future of Canada’s energy industry.

The summit brought together leaders from across the country to explore the role of infrastructure, policy, and investment in shaping Canada’s position as a global energy leader. A consistent theme throughout the day was the need to move from commitment to action, particularly as timelines approach for key agreements tied to the Alberta-Canada energy memorandum of understanding.

During the event, Kristi shared her perspective on the current direction of energy policy, noting that while recent messaging signals progress, it must be matched with meaningful follow-through.

“We’re looking for more action to go together with the language and the talk that we’re hearing,” she said. “There are good signals coming out of Ottawa. Now we need to move towards action.”

She also spoke to the role of agreements like the Ottawa-Alberta MOU:

“A memorandum of understanding is a good step, but it’s in and of itself not sufficient to change the industry. We need decisive policy action that will support the industry.”

We were also pleased to have Maggie McMurtry, our Applications Engineering Manager attend alongside several of our clients, contributing to conversations that will help shape the future of energy in Canada.
