Startec participated in the Business Council of Alberta’s latest initiative: Laying the Foundation. This task force report shines a light on the people and pathways behind Alberta’s skilled trades.
As part of the project, two of our very own Everyday Mavericks, Jason Sand and Sara Abbott, shared their personal journey; why they chose a career in the trades, what their day-to-day looks like, and why this work is essential to Alberta’s future. The video also explores current challenges in the labour market, and opportunities to strengthen and grow our skilled trades workforce.
“Skilled trades are the foundation of Alberta’s economy, and our future relies on expanding opportunities for all Albertans,” said Kristi Cawthorn, Startec’s CEO. “By removing barriers and fostering inclusion, we create meaningful careers, strengthen industries, and secure long-term prosperity for our province.”
We were grateful for the opportunity to work with the Business Council of Alberta on this project, and to help share real stories from the front lines of Alberta’s skilled trades. Efforts like these are important for raising awareness about the value of trades careers, the challenges people face, and the opportunities that lie ahead for building a stronger, more inclusive Alberta.
